Bac Ha Sunday Market is often held every Sunday from morning till 2:00 pm, near the mountainous highlands and the Chinese border. The market has come to existence since the foundation of Lao Cai Province. From then on, the market only opens once a week on Sunday.
Bac Ha Market is considered as the largest and most colorful market in the area. On weekends, throngs of villagers from the surrounding hill tribes walk to the market to purchase and exchange food, animals, clothes and household goods.
Each year, Bac Ha sees a lot of delightful festivals. On these occasions, locals often make wishes for prosperity, favorable weather and bumper harvests. Coming to Bac Ha that time, travellers can witness ethnic minorities dress up in their best traditional outfits and join masses of people drinking and dancing.
07.00h – Pick up from your hotel or from Lao Cai train station to Bac Ha
09.00h – Arrival to Bac Ha and greetings visitors at a rendezvous, transfer to BacHa market, a big market crowded with people from many different hill-tribes. This is the most colorful market in North Vietnam. Here, you have chance to enjoy the BacHa people’s simple but unique kinds of food with special wines made from rice, cassavas, corn and different sorts of fruits such as plums, apples and peaches. Talk to the locals using the guide as your interpreter.
Leave the market for the H’mong King’s house (King Hoang A Tuong) built by the French colonists and the Chinese in 1920.
Return to the town for lunch.
In the afternoon, a short trekking visit BanPho village. Drop in to see the Vietnamese and Chinese
Harbour Mouth in LaoCai.
